Step 1. Pre-Washing: To Detangle or Not?If the hair is soft and fine — you can lightly detangle with a wide-tooth comb.
If the wave is more structured or coarse —
do NOT detangle before washing, or you’ll disrupt the pattern.
Remove only large knots gently with your fingers.
Step 2. Use Warm, Not Hot WaterWarm water gently opens the cuticle enough for shampoo to cleanse without damaging the wave.
Hot water causes immediate frizz.
Optimal temperature:
36–38°C (96–100°F).
Step 3. Apply Shampoo Only to the RootsThe foam will naturally run down the length and cleanse it without friction.
Do not rub the length or “wash” it between your palms — that’s the number one reason for frizz.
How to apply properly:- lather shampoo in your hands first,
- apply to the scalp,
- massage gently,
- avoid pulling or separating the waves aggressively.
Step 4. Conditioner or Mask — Only on the LengthWaves LOVE hydration. But apply conditioning products carefully:
- distribute only through the lengths, not the roots;
- smooth the hair from top to bottom;
- don’t twist or rub the strands.
This step keeps waves defined, heavier, and more polished.
Step 5. Rinse with Cool WaterCool water seals the cuticle and helps the waves settle smoothly.
This is the secret to defined waves without puffiness.
